ACHIEVEMENTS

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Education of NITTTR Bhopal, provides quality need‐based training in contemporary and emerging areas and development of demand driven and innovative instructional resources. The department designs and conducts online‐cum‐contact mode programmes and subject matter updating programmes related to various areas of Computer Science & Engineering. It also helps technical education institutions in developing curricula in new/emerging areas of Computer Science & Engineering for Under‐Graduate and Diploma Programmes.

TRAINING – NATIONAL

Being a teacher training institute, the department conducts short term training programmes for polytechnics and engineering college faculty on regular basis in Computer Science and Engineering Education areas. These programmes are mix of content and pedagogy of teaching computer science. The department has been conducting 15 to 20 short term training courses per year. These courses are in addition to the other interdisciplinary courses like induction training programmes, project-based courses and workshops, and courses like quality assurance in technical education (accreditation, academic audit, etc.)

TRAINING - INTERNATIONAL

Training of overseas participants through TCS & ITEC Programmes of the Government of India is annually planned at institute level. The department has been regularly participating in this scheme. Three programmeshave been conducted in recent past under the TCS scheme. The title of these courses is Web based courseware development –PHP & MySQL. In each course about 10 to 15 number of participants were there. Efforts are on to increase the number through ITEC courses, as in the ITEC scheme participants from more than 100 countries become eligible to attend the course.

LONG TERM PROGRAMMES

The department started to offer M. Tech. - Computer Technology & Application programme, which was run between 2011-12 to 2016-17: 6 batches (Sanctioned Intake: 36).

Further, in another Masters in Technical Education Programme department offered computing related course in the past. The M. Tech-Ed. is an interdisciplinary Masters in Technical Education programme. The department also offered Ph.D. programme in the Technical Education.

In addition to the above programmes, the department has offered the CSE related courses in other national and international education programmes such as Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering which was sponsored by International Labor Organization and in which teachers from African countries participated. Similarly, the department has contributed in several other programmes like Diploma in Technical Teaching for Sri Lankan trainees, and other programmes jointly offered with Colombo Plan Staff College, Manila.

Design and development of curriculum of Diploma programmes in Computer Engineering, and Information Technology for various universities/state boards of technical education has been successfully done. A sample list is given below.

9.5 PEDAGOGY RESEARCH CONTRIBUTIONS

Systemic research and action research have been part and parcel of NITTTR’s functioning to introduce reforms and innovations in the technical education system since its inception. Some prominent reforms are given hereunder :

Institute has recently taken up 17 research studies in technical education related areas.

Three institute sponsored studies are going on in the department in areas like:

  • Technology Enabled Learning
  • UG programme accreditation impact study
  • Immersive learning focusing on use of AR and VR for teaching-learning

Prior to this, other studies undertaken are:

  • Design, development and testing of computer Graphics simulation software.
  • Development & testing of Computerized MIS on Staff Development for Government Polytechnic, Damoh.
  • Development and testing of Multimedia CBT package on microprocessor interfacing devices.
  • Development and testing of Multimedia based profile of TTTI, Bhopal using Authorware professional.
  • Design and development of a computerized student profile for Government Polytechnic of Maharashtra.
9.6 LEARNING RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (PRINT AND NON-PRINT)

NITTTR, Bhopal has traditionally been developing and disseminating variety of learning resources in engineering and allied content. For this purpose, a full-fledged production grade video & film production studio setup is there in institute. With the emergence of e-content and MOOCs, sea change has taken place in design and development of Learning Resources. Utilizing these facilities, the department faculty along with other faculty members of the institute have developed large number of e-content and video programmes on various topics.
