MESSAGE OF THE DIRECTOR

While other institutions work for transfer of knowledge or skills in specific knowledge domains, NITTTR Bhopal (NITTTRB) is mandated to work at the intersection of three knowledge areas: technology, content and pedagogy.The NITTTRB established in 1965, has grown to be a widely recognized and internationally acclaimed institution for the development of technical education system and a model institute for design and delivery of programmes to address the teaching, learning and research needs of the system and bridge the industry academia gap. Over the years, it has proved to be a major resource institution and a centre of excellence for the overall growth and expansion of technical education system of the country and bears larger responsibility to contribute to a wide-ranging diverse labour market.

Apart from polytechnics and engineering colleges, it also serves professional institutions, industry, public service organizations, vocational education and community at large as per their derived needs in human resources development. It has strategically positioned itself as an interface between industry/society and academia. It translates industrial/societal skill requirements into academic programmes and facilitates academic institutions with newer pedagogical methods in offering these programmes. NITTTRB has been in the forefront in popularizing and execution of many national initiatives, including the recent MHRD MOOCs development, AICTE’s NITTT initiative and National Mentoring Mission of NEP-2020. It has conducted series of webinars on ‘NBA accreditation process’ and on ‘NEP-2020’. Since inception, NITTTR Bhopal is committed to excellence in all it does, innovate and apply best practices, and collaborate within and outside the country to achieve its vision.

Today, fuelled by technological advancements, countries are recalibrating their growth models to consolidate their positions in the global economy. The availability of a highly skilled and technically qualified and trained human resource base will be a crucial determinant of success. The green and digital technological advancements in economies not only mean an increase in the number of tasks to be done, but also complement human workers and in certain cases, their replacement. There is a need to develop human workers who are adaptable and agile, and become increasingly adept at jumping between different tasks and professions with minimal friction and navigate technology-induced green and digital transitions. Accomplishing this feat will arguably be the most difficult and it will require changes in both education and training systems as well as how workers are supported throughout their working lives.

Given the world order today, the future of education and training is expected to face three formidable challenges. The first, a macro level challenge, is the prediction of future of learning. The second, a micro level challenge, is the individual ‘Habits of Mind’ in learning. Both these challenges have contextual and content relevance. The third challenge, a medium level challenge that lies in between these two challenges, is the design and development of methodologies that shall lead to convergence of three knowledge types: Pedagogy, Content and Technology, to make Education and Training more effective. Fortunately, NEP-2020 addresses these issues. It proposes transformations aiming at liberal education, with Indian ethos at its foundation; aims autonomous and multi-faculty institutions; focus on outcomes, research and the shift towards learners and social learning as its cornerstones. The NEP-2020 has placed increasing demand on NITTTRB mandated activities.

Realizing the fact that the limit of an education system is the limit of its teachers, it plans all its future activities placing teachers at the centre in development of the system. With an enhanced vision to be ‘an institution of international eminence in the field of technical education system development’, NITTTRB plans bench mark academic programs and research studies on pedagogy and technological issues, leading to capacity building of the technical education system; expand its training activities aiming at making Indian teachers as global leaders; and help the Indian workforce negotiate future green and digital transitions. It plans for newer pedagogical methods and instructional design aiming at higher order learning skills.It plans to establish state-of-art Centres of Excellence to map the needs of the pedagogical, technological and content oriented research profile designed for development by the institute. While making its ‘Vision Plan-2036’, it rededicates itself, to join the nation, to make India a leading and vibrant economy and in fulfilling the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Jai Hind!
